Keeping Your Cloud Data Safe: A Complete Guide to Cloud Security
Keeping Your Cloud Data Safe: A Complete Guide to Cloud Security

Convenient, vast, accessible, cloud data is the perfect way to store thousands of important files and information.

The question is, how do you keep that data safe?

Becoming educated on cloud security is vital to ensuring your data is protected. Unfortunately, online hacking is on the rise with the U.S. expected to experience over half of all global data breaches by 2023.

Fortunately, we’ve got you covered with this guide to making sure your cloud computing security is on par.

Cloud Security Defined

Just like any other onsite IT security system, cloud security makes sure your data is safe from attacks. A proper cloud security system will prevent hackers, be able to trace unknown or unexpected users, and notify you if something untoward happens with your data.

For some, the idea of storing important information in “the cloud” may be intimidating. This may be due to a lack of physical storage presence among other things.

But, at its core, cloud security is like any other IT security system.

Why You Must Encrypt Data

If the last election taught us anything, it’s that you must encrypt online data--thank you, Mrs. Clinton, for that lesson.

While one of the advantages of storing data on the cloud is that it’s easier to access widely, this also means there are fewer parameters guarding your information against danger.

The way around this? Encryption.

Other good ideas for protecting your cloud data is to use 2-step verification for access. You should also hire a cloud engineer who can build requirements for extra strong passwords and who includes security measures at every level.

Stay Current About Threat Types

Interestingly, one of the most effective ways to protect your data on the cloud is to stay informed about the latest forms of malware, sophisticated threats, or APTs also known as Advanced Persistent Threats.

Because hackers and hacking malware are constantly evolving, your best chance of protecting your data is to employ a service or engineer who is continually educating themselves about potential threats.

This allows you to have a cloud security system that can adapt to changes in protections when needed.

At the end of the day, there’s little you can do that’s more effective than building a secure, encrypted, security system for your data in the first place. Then, have that system scalable (luckily with cloud storage this is typical) to meet new threats.

Benefits of a Hybrid Cloud

A common method used by businesses or corporations to protect cloud data is to use a hybrid cloud.

A hybrid cloud allows you to store some data in a more secure arena while still allowing public access to other forms of information and data.

This works well by letting a broad base of employees or individuals access information that doesn’t need as much security. You can then use the private cloud to store your top secret or highly sensitive data.

Protect Your Data Today

The sooner your cloud security is properly set up, the safer your data will be from online hackers, malware, and other threats.

When we moved our environment into the cloud we worked closely with SADOS. They were easy to work with and very responsive to our needs. They helped us navigate the intricacies of the AWS and perfected our network environment. Anyone looking to move their infrastructure to the cloud would be well-served by working with SADOS.

Enforme used to host our own data-center. In doing so we had power costs, generator costs, cooling costs, hardware/warranty costs and many other costs that come along with hosting your own equipment. Now we have POP sites all over the world and double the resources at half the cost thanks to the cloud. Our cloud migration was one of the best decisions we could have made thanks to SADOS.

SADOS has been a great help. We contacted you to help migrate the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs to AWS Gov. Cloud. Their knowledge with cloud technology was an extreme help during this project. They prepared and created the infrastructure for this environment to allow future growth, fail over possibilities, and load balancing scenarios.
